Careers

We hire rarely, and slowly.

Six people have ever been employed here, so this page is usually empty.

Pitch a role

Tell us what you would do here that nobody is doing.

Most of the people here arrived without a posting to answer. One page is enough: the problem you want to work on, what you have already built in that area, and what you would spend the first year doing. If it is a real argument we will take it seriously, and if it is not for us you will get a reason.

How we hire

03 steps
01

We read what you built

Send the thing, not the description of the thing. A repository, a paper, a rule you drafted, a system that runs. If the work is somewhere public, the link is the application.

02

A conversation, not a panel

One long conversation about a problem you have actually worked on, with the people you would work with. No case study written over a weekend for free, and no exercise invented to rank you against other candidates.

03

A decision, with a reason

Two weeks from that conversation, and a reason either way. A rejection with no reason in it is useless to you.

What we look for

  • People who have already made something in the area they want to work on, at whatever scale.
  • A habit of going back to first principles rather than to the last draft everyone agreed on.
  • Willingness to publish what did not work, which is most of what we produce.
  • Comfort being the person who says the framework cannot be built as written.
