3. Purpose
3.1Perrin Research is a progressive libertarian think tank for free markets and responsible technology. It publishes research and analysis, drafts and advises on policy proposals on request, builds reference systems that test those proposals, and makes grants through Perrin Giving.
3.2Its research ranges from opening lawful markets that adults choose to take part in, to the governance of technologies that can harm people who never chose them, including artificial intelligence in defence and cybercrime.
4. History of names
4.1The institution was founded in 2023 as Perrin, in Charlottesville, Virginia, and fully merged with Fidutam to operate as Perrin & Fidutam. It now operates as Perrin Research.
4.2The work published under each of those names is the work of the same institution. The Perrin & Fidutam record is preserved in the archive at /archive and in the institution's compendium.
5. Public filings and inspection
5.1As federal law requires of a tax-exempt organization, the institution makes the following documents available for public inspection, and provides copies on written request:
- Its application for recognition of exemption and the IRS determination letter recognizing its 501(c)(3) status
- Its annual information returns (IRS Form 990 or the applicable Form 990 series return) for the three most recent years for which a return has been filed
5.3Requests should be sent in writing to contact@perrininstitution.org or to the registered office. The institution will respond within the period required by law. Its employer identification number and financial statements are likewise available on written request.
6. Names and marks
6.1Perrin Research, Perrin Giving, and the Perrin mark are names and marks used by Perrin Institution, Inc. Products developed by the institution, such as Overturn, are identified as the institution's work where they appear. Use of the institution's names and marks is governed by the IP and Ownership Notice at /ip-notice.
7. Verifying the institution
7.1Anyone who needs to confirm the institution's status, that a document was issued by it, or that a person is affiliated with it may write to contact@perrininstitution.org. The institution treats verification requests as a priority and does not charge for them.
