Membership and Affiliation Statement

1. The membership community

1.1Across its history as Perrin & Fidutam, the institution counted more than 1,600 members in its community: researchers, writers, students, engineers and practitioners who contributed analysis, reporting and project work. Perrin Research inherits that record.

2. Membership is not employment

2.1Membership does not constitute employment. Members are not employees, agents or officers of the institution by virtue of membership, and membership does not create any contract of employment, entitlement to compensation, or authority to act for the institution.

2.2The organization has only ever employed six people.

3. Authority to represent the institution

3.1Only the institution's officers, and people the institution has expressly authorized in writing for a stated purpose, may speak or act on its behalf. No member may enter into agreements, accept funds, make commitments, or present positions as those of the institution unless so authorized.

4. False claims of affiliation

4.1Any individual claiming to be on the team of, employed by, or otherwise representing the organization, other than as described above, is making a false claim. The institution may publicly correct such claims and may take legal action where a false claim is used to obtain money, access or credibility.

5. How members may describe their affiliation

5.1Current and former members may accurately describe their membership, for example 'member, Perrin & Fidutam' or 'contributor to Perrin Research', and may list work they published with the institution. They may not describe themselves as employees, staff, fellows or officers unless they held that position.

6. Verifying an affiliation

6.1To verify whether someone is or was a member, an employee, or an authorized representative of the institution, write to contact@perrininstitution.org with the person's name and the context of the claim. The institution will confirm what it can, consistent with its privacy obligations.
