1. Who it applies to

1.1This code applies to directors, officers, employees, fellows and members whenever they act in connection with the institution: in its work, at its events, in its online spaces, and when representing it to others.

2. Standards

  • Act honestly, and never misrepresent the institution, its work, or your role in it
  • Treat colleagues, partners and the public with respect
  • Argue about ideas on the evidence, and never attack people
  • Protect confidential information and personal data
  • Use the institution's funds and property only for its purposes
  • Disclose conflicts of interest under the Conflict of Interest Policy
  • Comply with the law and with the institution's policies

3. Prohibited conduct

  • Harassment of any kind, including sexual harassment
  • Discrimination prohibited by the Non-Discrimination and Equal Opportunity Policy
  • Bullying, intimidation, or threats
  • Fraud, bribery, or accepting improper gifts
  • Retaliation against anyone who raises a concern

4. Representing the institution

4.1Only people authorized under the Membership and Affiliation Statement may speak for the institution. Everyone else speaks for themselves, and should say so where there is any risk of confusion.

5. Raising a concern

5.1Concerns may be raised with the Executive Director, with any officer, or under the Whistleblower Policy. Concerns are taken seriously, handled promptly, and kept as confidential as a fair process allows.

6. Breaches

6.1Breaches of this code may lead to action proportionate to their seriousness, including a warning, removal from a project or role, the end of membership, or termination of employment, and may be reported to the authorities where the law has been broken.
